Sarangani Bay

Sarangani Bay is a coastal inlet on the southern tip of Mindanao in the Philippines. It opens westward onto the Celebes Sea, part of the broader Pacific Ocean system, and stretches roughly 33 kilometers from north to south and about 16 kilometers across at its widest point. General Santos, one of the country's most important cities and a major port, sits at the head of the bay, giving the area significant economic activity alongside its natural character. The bay was declared a national park under Republic Act No. 11038, the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in July 2018. This designation placed Sarangani Bay among the Philippines' officially recognized protected seascapes, formalizing its conservation status alongside its continuing role as a working maritime zone. The bay gives its name to the Province of Sarangani, which was created in 1992 and faces the water along its coastline. The combination of a busy port, surrounding municipalities such as Glan, Alabel, Maasim, and Malapatan, and newly recognized protected-area status makes Sarangani Bay a place where industrial shipping activity and coastal conservation coexist.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
