Speicherbecken Orrot

Speicherbecken Orrot is a small landscape protection area in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, centered on the Orrotsee reservoir and the wooded valley of the Orrot stream. Established in December 1968 by the former Landratsamt Aalen, the protected area covers roughly 57 hectares across the municipalities of Jagstzell and Rosenberg in the Ostalbkreis. The reserve lies within the natural region of the Schwäbisch-Fränkische Waldberge, a transitional upland between the Swabian Alb and the Franconian Keuper landscapes. Its defining character comes from the open water surface of the Orrotsee, set against forested valley slopes, with additional smaller ponds and a meadow fed by seepage water above the lake. Although modest in size, Speicherbecken Orrot plays a meaningful role in the regional network of protected landscapes, combining reservoir functions with ecological value. It connects to broader conservation efforts in the area, including portions of the FFH area Virngrund und Ellwanger Berge.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
