Ulandra Nature Reserve

Ulandra Nature Reserve is a protected strict nature reserve in southeastern Australia, managed under the New South Wales state system. It lies in the transitional belt between the Southern Tablelands and the eastern Riverina, roughly 25 kilometres southwest of Coootamundra and a few kilometres southeast of the village of Bethungra. The reserve covers about 3,930 hectares of hilly terrain defined by the Ulandra Range, with Mount Ulandra rising well above the surrounding agricultural plain. The reserve was created in 1981 principally to protect stands of the Cootamundra wattle (Acacia baileyana), a species that is invasive in many regions but is here found within its limited natural range. Beyond that single focus, Ulandra also preserves a regionally significant example of open forest dominated by Callitris endlicheri, the black cypress pine, alongside a mix of eucalypt species. These woodland communities have largely been cleared from the surrounding agricultural district, giving Ulandra an outsized ecological importance in the local landscape. Ulandra is recognized for its role in supporting threatened woodland birds, particularly the superb parrot, and for the presence of vulnerable species such as the turquoise parrot. A relatively undisturbed catchment feeding into Merrybundinah Creek adds further conservation value to a reserve that is otherwise encircled by heavily modified farmland.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
