Wald-, Moor- und Heidelandschaft der Fröruper Berge und Umgebung

The Wald-, Moor- und Heidelandschaft der Fröruper Berge und Umgebung is a Natura 2000 protected landscape in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, located in the Kreis Schleswig-Flensburg between the communities of Oeversee, Großsolt, Havetoft, and Sieverstedt. The site combines two spatially separate components: the larger Fröruper Berge area centered on a forested ridge of glacial end moraines, and the smaller Holmingfeld area further east. The combined territory preserves a mosaic of Hainsimsen beech forest, degraded raised bogs, oak woodland on sandy soils, lowland moors, dry heath, and inland dunes, together with the waters and meadows that connect them. The protected area matters because it captures a coherent slice of the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Hügelland, where surviving old woodland sits beside shallow peatlands and heath patches that have been heavily altered by drainage and agricultural conversion over the last two centuries. Its conservation profile is anchored by the EU Habitats Directive (FFH) framework and is managed in coordination with the larger Obere Treenelandschaft conservation project, which surrounds the site to the north and west along the Treene river. Beyond its ecological role, the area is a well-used local recreation landscape. It lies only a few kilometers from Flensburg and is crossed by round walking trails and the Pilgerroute am Ochsenweg long-distance path, making the protected site an accessible mix of conservation, cultural landscape, and walking country.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
