Waldteil bei der Lochmühle

Waldteil bei der Lochmühle is a very small protected landscape, or Landschaftsschutzgebiet, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It lies in the city of Ettlingen within the Landkreis Karlsruhe, roughly midway between the villages of Sulzbach and Oberweier in the valley of the Lochmühlegraben. Although the protected area covers only about 1.3 hectares, it shelters a complete woodland parcel whose ecological value is closely tied to its position along a small stream. The site's main natural importance comes from a strip of black-alder and ash forest that follows the stream. This forest has been classified as a priority habitat type under the European Habitats Directive, the so-called alder-ash floodplain woodland. A mature elm in the southwestern part of the area is additionally recognized as an individual natural monument, underscoring the site's role in preserving old and characteristic trees within the surrounding agricultural foothills. Administratively, the area falls within the larger FFH site "Wälder und Wiesen bei Malsch" and inside the Naturpark Schwarzwald Mitte/Nord, placing it within a broader network of protected landscapes north of the central Black Forest. Its designation in 1962 marked a long-standing commitment to keeping this small stream-side forest intact amid the otherwise heavily cultivated Vorberg landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
