Alwal National Park

Alwal National Park is a protected area in Far North Queensland, Australia, situated on the Cape York Peninsula within the Shire of Cook. Established in 2010, the park covers approximately 42.5 square kilometers of diverse terrain including sections of the Morehead River, sandstone escarpments, undulating low hills, seasonal wetlands, and patches of vine-thicket. The park lies within the Cape York Peninsula bioregion and contains about 30 separate wetland ecosystems. Alwal holds exceptional conservation significance as a refuge for some of the last known populations of the Golden-shouldered parrot, one of Australia's most endangered bird species. The park is managed collaboratively between the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and the Uw Olkola people, the traditional owners of the land.
