Drawieński National Park

Drawieński National Park is a protected area in northwestern Poland, set on the Równina Drawska, a broad lowland plain shaped by glacial activity. Established in 1990, the park spans more than 11,500 hectares across the Lubuskie, Zachodniopomorskie and Wielkopolskie provinces, with its administrative seat in the small town of Drawno. The landscape is dominated by extensive forests, dominated by beech and oak-beech stands as well as pine forests, interspersed with lakes and river valleys. The Drawa and Płociczna rivers wind through the terrain, shaping a mosaic of woodlands, peatland fringes, and open water that includes roughly twenty lake basins. Lake Ostrowite is the largest of these waterbodies, and the unusual humic Lake Czarnka is notable on a national scale. The park stands out for combining a lowland setting with substantial forest cover, a dense lake and river network, and unusually rich biodiversity for this part of Poland. It is also a stronghold for large mammal species, raptors, and freshwater fish, while a system of strict protection reserves preserves its most ecologically valuable tracts.
