A comprehensive geological collection of nearby recorded seismic events and epicentre locations

Recorded Historical Seismic Activity and Earthquake Data for the Dresdner Elbtalhänge Region

This collection presents a catalogue of recorded earthquakes associated by proximity to the Dresdner Elbtalhänge nature reserve in Saxony. Each entry includes event date, magnitude, depth, and epicentre distance, providing a geographic record of past seismic activity mapped across this valley landscape. The data is compiled for historical research and regional analysis, ensuring clear documentation of seismic events identified within the vicinity of these steep Elbe valley slopes.

Dresdner Elbtalhaenge

The Dresdner Elbtalhaenge is a nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in Saxony, Germany, covering about 203 hectares of the steep right-bank slopes of the Elbe valley just east of the city of Dresden. It stretches roughly 4.5 kilometers along the valley edge between the Tiefer Grund near Borsberg and the Pressgrund near Rockau, with deep wooded ravines, exposed rock outcrops, species-rich dry meadows, and warm south- to southwest-facing forest slopes. The reserve belongs to the Westlausitz hill and upland region and was established in 2007, incorporating the older Borsberghaenge und Friedrichsgrund protected area. Its ecological value lies in the unusual combination of continental-warm dry habitats on the sun-exposed upper slopes and cool, humid microclimates in the shaded side ravines, which together sustain a rich mix of oak, beech, hornbeam, and maple forests, relict pine stands, rock vegetation, and nutrient-poor grasslands. The area forms part of the European Natura 2000 network through the Elbtalhaenge zwischen Loschwitz und Bonnewitz FFH site, securing protection for several strictly protected bat, beetle, and orchid-rich habitats. Beyond its conservation role, the reserve functions as a local recreation and walking landscape, linking rural Dresden neighborhoods with sweeping views toward the Elbe floodplain and Schloss Pillnitz.
