Hornopožárský les Nature Park

Hornopožárský les Nature Park is a protected forested landscape in the lower Posázaví region of central Bohemia, situated on the right bank of the Sázava River. Covering roughly 25 square kilometers across the districts of Praha-východ and Benešov, the park lies about 20 kilometers south of Prague, where it functions as a widely used and easily accessible recreational area. The area is defined by relatively deep and extensive forests, with small remaining fragments of original broadleaved woodland. Granite outcrops, scattered boulders, and active quarries add a distinctive geological character to the landscape, shaping both the scenery and the local economy of stone extraction. Beyond its natural value, the park carries cultural and historical interest. Its name derives from a hunting lodge known as Horní Požáry, commissioned deep in the forest by Archduke Franz Ferdinand d'Este, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Today, the park combines protected habitats with a popular network of trails, cycling routes, and mushroom-gathering traditions.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
