Ostoja Góry Słonne

Ostoja Góry Słonne is a protected natural area in southeastern Poland, designated within the European Union Natura 2000 network as a Site of Community Importance. It covers roughly 46,000 hectares of the Słonne Mountains and the adjacent Przemyskie Foothills in the Podkarpackie region, where the landscape is shaped by forested ridges, river valleys, and traditional rural land use. The area is best known for its extensive beech forest cover, dominated by fertile Carpathian beech woods, alongside smaller patches of oak-hornbeam forest, mixed riparian woodlands, mountain alder groves, and upland meadows. These habitats shelter large European mammals such as the wolf, lynx, and brown bear, as well as beaver, otter, and a suite of amphibians and fish species listed under the EU Habitats Directive. Nearly the entire site lies within the boundaries of the Gór Słonnych Landscape Park, and twelve nature reserves are embedded inside it, reinforcing its role as one of the most ecologically significant forested uplands of the Polish Carpathians.
