Ostoja Kroczycka

Ostoja Kroczycka is a special area of habitat protection within the European Natura 2000 network, located in the central part of the Częstochowa Upland in southern Poland. Spanning roughly 1,391 hectares, it unites four distinct limestone rock ranges: Skały Rzędkowickie, Skały Morskie, Skały Podlesickie, and Skały Kroczyckie. These ranges form the most morphologically and scenically varied stretch of the upland, with limestone outcrops rising several tens of meters and dense networks of caves and rock shelters. Some twenty larger caves lie within the site, alongside a much larger number of small rock shelters, several of which serve as important bat hibernacula. Beyond its subterranean interest, the area is defined by its mosaic of forested hills and open rocky habitats, where sclerophyllous vegetation, thermophilous grasslands, and old-growth orchid beeches coexist within a compact landscape. Ostoja Kroczycka therefore functions both as a conservation stronghold and as a richly textured piece of the broader Orlich Gniazd (Eagle's Nests) Landscape Park.
