Ostoja Olsztyńsko-Mirowska

Ostoja Olsztyńsko-Mirowska is a Special Area of Conservation within the European Natura 2000 network, located on the Częstochowa Upland in southern Poland. Covering roughly 2,210 hectares in the Silesian Voivodeship, the site stretches from the northeastern outskirts of Częstochowa south-eastward through Zielona Góra and Góry Towarne to Sokole Góry, and then north-eastward to the Mirowsko-Bobolicka Grzęda. The protected area is defined by a striking mosaic of forested limestone hills, deep rock formations, and numerous caves and rock shelters. Past pastoral use of the hills has produced xerothermic grasslands, including rare rock-steppe communities that host endemic and relict plant species. The wooded ridges that still support natural beech stands are protected as nature reserves, while the caves are important roosting and breeding sites for bats. Entirely enclosed within the Orlich Gniazd Landscape Park, Ostoja Olsztyńsko-Mirowska combines strong biodiversity value with notable cultural heritage. The area is crossed by major trail routes, the Eagles' Nests Trail among them, and contains iconic medieval castles at Olsztyn, Mirów, and Bobolice.
