Rudniańskie Modraszki, Kajasówka

Rudniańskie Modraszki – Kajasówka is a small, specially protected habitat area in the Natura 2000 network, located in the Małopolskie (Lesser Poland) voivodeship in southern Poland. Set within the Kraków powiat (county) and extending across parts of the Garb Tenczyński ridge and the Obniżenie Cholerzyńskie depression, the site covers a mosaic of agricultural fields, meadows, and pastures near the village of Czernichów. The protected area was designated primarily to safeguard populations of several threatened butterfly species, especially rare members of the Lycaenidae family whose life cycles depend on extensively managed wet and semi-natural grasslands. Beyond its entomological focus, the site sits inside the broader Rudniański Park Krajobrazowy landscape park and includes the Kajasówka nature reserve on its northern edge. Although modest in size, the area is ecologically significant because it preserves habitat types that have become increasingly rare across southern Poland, including xerothermic grasslands, molinia meadows, and traditionally mown hay meadows. Its continued protection is closely tied to the survival of vanishing lowland meadow ecosystems west of Kraków.
