Toonumbar National Park

Toonumbar National Park is a protected area located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia, approximately 620 kilometres north of Sydney near the small town of Woodenbong. The park covers 14,910 hectares of rugged terrain dominated by the volcanic remnants of Mount Lindesay, Dome Mountain, and Edinburgh Castle, all that remain of the ancient Focal Peak Volcano that was active approximately 23 million years ago. The park is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and forms part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1986 and added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2007. The park features extensive subtropical and temperate rainforests, particularly in the Murray Scrub and Dome Mountain areas, which protect numerous threatened plant and animal species in one of the most ecologically significant regions on the Australian continent.
