Weissach Protected Landscape

Weissach is a designated protected landscape, or Landschaftsschutzgebiet, in the Böblingen district of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany. The protected area covers around 578 hectares distributed across eleven sub-areas surrounding the municipality of Weissach and the nearby village of Flacht. It lies within the Neckar Basin natural region and forms part of the broader Heckengäu landscape, characterized by gently rolling hills, hedgerows, dry grasslands, traditional orchards, and patches of woodland. The protected landscape's character is shaped largely by centuries of small-scale agricultural use, which has produced a mosaic of habitats rather than a single dominant ecosystem. Streuobstwiesen, traditional mixed fruit orchards with tall standard trees, are a recurring feature alongside Feldgehölze (small field woods), Halbtrockenrasen (semi-dry calcareous grasslands), and hedge-lined field margins. The Strudelbach stream flows through part of the area, adding a near-natural riparian corridor to the mosaic. Weissach is recognized primarily for safeguarding this diverse cultural landscape, including its value as a habitat reservoir for native flora and fauna, and for maintaining an extensive, connected recreation area. It is also linked to the Natura 2000 network through the FFH site Strohgäu und unteres Enztal and borders the Hartmannsberg nature reserve to the south.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
