Welzheimer Wald mit Leintal

Welzheimer Wald mit Leintal is a designated protected landscape (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany, spanning parts of the Rems-Murr-Kreis and the Ostalbkreis between the town of Welzheim in the west and the municipality of Heuchlingen in the east. The protected area covers an unspoiled forested upland and river-valley landscape characteristic of the eastern Swabian Keuper hill country, an area rooted in the natural regions of Schurwald and Welzheimer Wald and the Schwäbisch-Fränkische Waldberge. The protection order, issued on 30 August 1972 by the former Regierungspräsidium Nordwürttemberg, is focused on preserving an intact Keuper forest and valley landscape that still functions as an important landscape and recreational area. By German nature-protection classification it belongs to the broad category of protected landscapes (Schutzgebietskategorie V: Protected Landscape/Seascape), one of the lower-intensity protection categories that still offers lasting protection against landscape-degrading development. With roughly nine thousand hectares of contiguous forest and valley terrain, the area represents one of the larger connected low-mountain landscape reserves in the eastern part of Baden-Württemberg. Its quiet, wooded character and its position on the watershed between the Rems, Lein and upper Rems river systems give the area a distinct role as a transitional landscape between the Schurwald, the Swabian-Franconian Forest hills, and the broader Schwäbisches Keuper-Lias-Land natural region.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
