West Coast National Park

West Coast National Park is a sprawling coastal protected area in South Africa's Western Cape province, situated approximately 88 kilometers north of Cape Town near the town of Langebaan. The park encompasses a diverse landscape of fynbos-covered hills, wetlands, and the ecologically significant Langebaan Lagoon, a Ramsar-designated wetland of international importance. Established in 1985 under its original name Langebaan National Park and renamed in 1987, the park spans roughly 36,000 hectares and forms a core component of the Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme. The park is renowned for its extraordinary spring wildflower displays, particularly in the Postberg section where carpeted fields of indigenous flowers bloom during August and September, and for supporting exceptional bird life that includes both resident species and vast numbers of migratory waders from the northern hemisphere.
