Wössinger Waldwiesen

Wössinger Waldwiesen is a small landscape protection area in the northern part of the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany. It lies east of Wössingen in the municipality of Bretten, within the Karlsruhe district, and belongs to the natural region of the Kraichgau. Covering only about 5.6 hectares, the protected area centers on an open, species-rich valley meadow with scattered fruit trees, framed by forest on three sides, where the Walzbach stream begins its course. The reserve was designated on 14 December 1988 by the Karlsruhe district office under a formal protection ordinance. Its main purpose is to preserve valley and hillside meadows, a small stream with its wooded margins, and to guide a former conifer plantation toward ecologically appropriate broadleaf forest with a structured forest edge. To the south, the protected landscape borders the natural monument known as the Hungerquelle, a spring feature on the Walzbach, which was designated at the same time as the meadow area, creating a connected protected corridor along the upper course of the stream. Despite its compact size, the area represents a characteristic Kraichgau landscape, where traditional orchard meadows transition into forest along a narrow valley. The combination of wet meadow, fruit trees, stream corridor, and forest edge gives the protected area a layered ecological character well above what its small footprint might suggest.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
