Late autumn and winter shift the emphasis from flowering meadow communities to the structural features of the valley itself: the incised Kerbtal, the alder and ash strips along the brook, the reed-ringed fire-water ponds, and the surrounding spruce stands. Mushrooms, bryophytes, and the bat fauna are also more notable elements of the reserve during these colder months.
