Abasig-Matogdon Mananap Natural Biotic Area

The Abasig-Matogdon Mananap Natural Biotic Area is a protected tropical forest reserve in the Bicol Region of the Philippines, on the island of Luzon. It lies within the province of Camarines Norte, spanning the municipalities of San Lorenzo Ruiz, Labo, and San Vicente, and is centered on the slopes of Mount Labo. Established on 31 May 2000 under the NIPAS Act (Republic Act 7586), the area protects some of the most extensive lowland and montane rainforest remaining in the province. Its landscapes, elevation range, and birdlife make it an important component of the regional network of protected natural areas in the Philippines. The reserve is significant for both its ecological value and its location. It sits roughly 300 kilometers southeast of Manila and about 30 kilometers from the provincial capital Daet, making it relatively accessible within the region. The terrain rises from lowland rainforest on the gentler foothills to montane forest higher up, with Mount Labo reaching its highest elevation within the protected boundary. The combination of intact rainforest cover, a tropical climate, and numerous geothermal springs gives the area a distinctive environmental character. Ecologically, the Abasig-Matogdon Mananap Natural Biotic Area shelters a broad spectrum of Philippine flora and fauna. Lowland dipterocarp forests dominate the lower slopes, while mossy and montane forests extend toward the summit. The reserve provides habitat for endemic and range-restricted bird species, as well as reptiles of conservation interest. Together with surrounding protected areas, it contributes to the conservation of the Philippines' remaining rainforest biodiversity in the southern part of Luzon.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
