Draved Skov

Draved Skov is a roughly 250 hectare mixed deciduous forest in southern Denmark, situated about four kilometers south of Løgumkloster in the historical border region of Southern Jutland. The forest sits on an unusually varied substrate that combines a glacial moraine hill called Kongensbjerg bakkeø with surrounding sandy outwash plains, producing a mosaic of soil types ranging from rich loam over clay to acidic, nutrient-poor sand and humus-rich hollows. Its climate is unusually wet for Denmark, with annual precipitation close to 900 millimeters and a consistently high water table. Those conditions have shaped a moisture-loving, species-rich broadleaf forest that is exceptionally undisturbed for a European lowland woodland. The forest stands beside Kongens Mose, one of the country's largest raised bogs, and the combined area is now part of a designated Danish national nature park. Draved Skov is significant both ecologically and historically. Long surrounded by bog, it was difficult and uneconomical to log, which preserved it through centuries of European deforestation. Today it serves as a reference site for natural forest dynamics in Denmark and is protected as both a habitat area and a bird protection area under the European Natura 2000 network.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
