FFH-Gebiet Wald westlich Wrohm

FFH-Gebiet Wald westlich Wrohm is a small protected forest site in northern Germany, located in the Dithmarschen district of Schleswig-Holstein near the village of Wrohm. Designated as a European Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) area under the Natura 2000 network, it covers roughly 26 hectares of woodland on a gentle geest ridge, part of the broader Heide-Itzehoer Geest landscape. The site is notable as a historical forest location, with mapped woodland shown on Johannes Mejers 1651 map of Dithmarschen. By the late nineteenth century, the forest was entirely broadleaf, and even after post-war replanting with conifers, substantial areas of characteristic beech, oak hornbeam, and alder floodplain forest habitats remain. Surrounded by meadows, fields, and a continuous wall-style hedgerow known locally as a Knick, the site functions as a refuge for native woodland habitat types that are otherwise rare in the region.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
