Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve

Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve is a nationally significant cluster of small wetlands in central Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory. The reserve sits on the Molonglo River and Jerrabomberra Creek floodplain and was formed when Lake Burley Griffin was created in 1964, which permanently raised the water table and inundated the surrounding land. The wetlands are made up of a network of pools, billabongs, swamps, and palaeochannels, including Shoveler Pool, Kelly's Swamp, Molonglo Reach, Jerrabomberra Billabong, and Jerrabomberra Pool. The mix of permanent and ephemeral water bodies, together with surrounding woodlands and grasslands, supports a rich community of waterbirds, woodland birds, and other native fauna. The reserve is particularly important for migratory and threatened species such as Latham's Snipe, Australasian Bittern, and Australian Painted-snipe, and it is recognised under Australian federal legislation as a Matter of National Environmental Significance. Managed jointly by the ACT Parks and Conservation Service and the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust, it functions as both an ecological refuge and a place of urban nature connection near the centre of the national capital.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
