Jezioro Szczawińskie Nature Reserve

Jezioro Szczawińskie is a small water nature reserve in central Poland, located in the Mazovian Voivodeship within Gmina Szczawin Kościelny in Powiat Gostyniński. The reserve covers approximately 138 hectares of lake waters, surrounding marshes, wet meadows, pastures, and patches of wooded shelterbelts, all encircled by a protective buffer zone of more than 339 hectares. The reserve was established in 2009 under a regional director of environmental protection order. Although modest in size, it protects a natural lake ecosystem with a distinctive zonal arrangement of plant communities, ranging from open water through reedbeds and emergent vegetation to wet meadow and woodland edges. The reserve is now managed under an active protection plan adopted in 2019. Ecologically, the site is notable for its birdlife: nearly 120 bird species have been recorded here, including several nesting species that are otherwise rare or sensitive in lowland Poland. The reserve also lies within important wider bird-protection designations, linking its local value to a broader network of protected habitats along the Przysowa and Słudwia river valleys.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
