A coastal dune and inland lake Natura 2000 area in Thy, northern Jutland.

Lild Strand og Lild Strandkær

Lild Strand og Lild Strandkær is a protected coastal and inland landscape in the Thy region of northern Jutland, Denmark, recognised as one of the country's Natura 2000 network sites. It stretches between the planted dune forests of Hjardemål Klitplantage and Lild Klitplantage within Thisted Municipality, combining an unbroken stretch of white and grey-green coastal dunes with a chain of inland lakes set behind the dunes. The site's importance lies in the scale and quality of its dune habitats, together with rare inland waterbodies such as the Lobelia lake of Lild Strandkær and the brown-water lakes Bolbredning and Bjålum Sø. Several nationally rare and red-listed plant species depend on these nutrient-poor dune, heath, and lake environments, giving the area genuine ecological significance beyond its regional setting. Designated as EU Habitat Area H185, the site is part of the European Natura 2000 framework and is integrated with Danish water planning for the Limfjord. Its combination of active coastal dunes, dune heath, dune slack wetlands, and clear inland lakes gives it a distinctive identity within the protected landscapes of western Thy.
