Miravalles Jorge Manuel Dengo National Park

Miravalles Jorge Manuel Dengo National Park is a protected area in the northwestern Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, established in June 2019 as the nation's twenty-ninth national park. The park encompasses the volcanic landscape surrounding Miravalles Volcano, an active stratovolcano that forms a prominent backdrop to the region despite its last recorded activity being steam vents in 1946. Covering approximately 43 square kilometers, the park was created by upgrading the former Miravalles Protected Zone to full national park status through executive decree, reflecting Costa Rica's ongoing commitment to expanding its conservation estate. The area falls within the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area and is managed by the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC), Costa Rica's primary protected area management authority.
