Mutawintji National Park

Mutawintji National Park is a protected area located in the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia, approximately 880 kilometres west of Sydney and about 130 kilometres north-east of Broken Hill. The park encompasses 68,912 hectares of rugged outback terrain featuring the Byngnano Range, colourful gorges, rockpools, and creek beds lined with river red gums. Mutawintji holds exceptional significance as a cultural landscape, protecting one of the finest collections of Aboriginal rock art in Australia. The park was formally established in 1998 following a groundbreaking agreement that transferred management to the Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council on behalf of the Malyangapa, Wilyakali, Wanyuparlku, and Pantjikali peoples, representing the first arrangement of its kind in New South Wales.
