Protected valley landscape along the Nagold River in the northern Black Forest

Nagoldtal

Nagoldtal is a designated landscape protection area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the Calw district of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, safeguarding the valley of the Nagold River across multiple municipalities. Established in November 1971, the protected area covers approximately 4,364 hectares and is composed of eight separate sections stretching between Bad Liebenzell in the south and Nagold further north. The territory belongs to the natural regions of the Schwarzwald-Randplatten (Black Forest fringe plates) and the Obere Gäue, and is described in official protection records as a valley landscape typical of the northern Black Forest, shaped through long-standing human land use while retaining a largely natural character. It adjoins another Nagoldtal protection area further south, managed by the Freudenstadt district, forming a continuous corridor of protected valley scenery along the river. The designation aims to preserve the near-natural character of the Nagold valley, secure characteristic landscape elements for recreational use, and prevent further settlement sprawl in this transitional zone between the Black Forest highlands and the upper Gäu plateau.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
