Naturschutzgebiet Pragpaul

Naturschutzgebiet Pragpaul is a small nature reserve of roughly 70 hectares in the Märkischer Kreis of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It lies just north of the town of Altena and also extends onto the territory of the neighboring municipality of Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde. The area follows the steep, rocky slopes that drop toward the River Lenne, protecting a network of beech slope forests, gorge woodland, and coppice woodlands set against exposed rock faces and cliff outcrops. The reserve was formally designated in stages during 1999 and 2004 and is recognized as being of supraregional ecological importance because of the close interweaving of its habitats and their good conservation condition. Since 2004 it has formed part of the larger Natura 2000 site 'Schluchtwälder im Lennetal', linking Pragpaul into a broader network of protected gorge and slope forests along the Lenne valley. Together, the riverside stretches with submerged vegetation and riparian woodland, the floodplain island known as Werth, and the surrounding slope forests create a compact but ecologically rich protected landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
