Naturschutzgebiet Schlingenbachtal

Naturschutzgebiet Schlingenbachtal is a small nature reserve in the municipality of Overath, in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The protected area follows almost the entire course of the Schlingenbach stream, a tributary of the Agger, from its upper reaches on the surrounding plateau down to shortly before it joins the Agger river. The reserve is set within a heavily forested landscape of spruce plantations and beech woodland typical of the Bergisches Land region. Within this wooded setting, the valley itself preserves a striking contrast of open habitats, including large areas of near-natural floodplain grassland, wet meadows, alder carr, and spring-fed headwaters. It is this combination of intact stream, floodplain, and adjacent forest habitats that gives the protected area its conservation importance. Designated in 1988 under the regional landscape plan for the southern Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, the area is classified as an IUCN Category IV Habitat/Species Management Area. Its main purpose is to preserve a representative stream-valley ecosystem and to restore near-natural floodplain and slope forests that have been altered by historical land use.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
