Neckartal mit Seitentälern von Rottweil bis Aistaig

The Neckartal mit Seitentälern von Rottweil bis Aistaig is a protected landscape (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the Rottweil district of Baden-Württemberg, in southwestern Germany. It covers roughly 16 square kilometers of the Neckar river valley and its side valleys, stretching from below the historic center of Rottweil downstream to the Stumpenfels area north of the Aistaig district of Oberndorf am Neckar. The protected area encompasses the steep valley slopes on both sides of the Neckar as well as several tributary valleys that cut deeply into the surrounding plateau. Its landscape has a partly canyon-like character where the river meanders through about twenty distinct bends through the Keuper and Muschelkalk bedrock of the Upper Gäue natural region. Tributary streams have carved additional notches into the valley flanks, breaking up the plateau edge and creating the rugged topography that defines the protected zone. The protected area is layered into a broader network of conservation designations: most of it overlaps with the FFH (Habitats Directive) site Neckartal between Rottweil and Sulz, and it contains several embedded nature reserves including Neckarburg, Schlichemtal, Kälberhalde, Mittlere Bollerhalde and Brandhalde. This combined designation reflects both the scenic value of the meandering Neckar valley and its ecological importance as a connected corridor of habitats and cliff-edge landforms.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
