Pfaffenberg Landscape Protection Area

Pfaffenberg is a designated landscape protection area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The protected site lies in the Tübingen district, on the territory of the town of Rottenburg am Neckar and the municipality of Ammerbuch. It covers the Pfaffenberg, a prominent wooded hill that forms a striking local landmark above the surrounding Neckar-side communities. The hill is a Zeugenberg, or outlier hill, of the Keuper geological stage, a relic of the harder cap rock left behind as softer surrounding strata eroded away. Its slopes are largely forested, while a belt of traditional orchards (Streuobstwiesen) wraps around the woodland edge. Some orchards are terraced with dry-stone walls, a cultural landscape feature typical of southern Germany. Designated as a protected landscape by the Tübingen district office in 1967, the area is administered as an IUCN Category V Protected Landscape/Seascape. Although small in scale, it represents the classic mosaic of forest, orchard, and geological heritage that defines much of the Swabian cultural landscape around the upper Neckar river.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
