Pieniny National Park

Pieniny National Park is Poland's oldest national park, established in 1932 and located in the heart of the Pieniny mountain range in the southernmost part of the country. The park occupies 23.46 square kilometers of dramatic limestone terrain in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, near the border with Slovakia. The protected area encompasses the spectacular Pieniny Właściwe range, featuring near-vertical limestone cliffs that plunge down to the Dunajec River, deep gorges, and distinctive karst formations. The park's signature landmark is the Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) massif, whose towering walls rise 982 meters above sea level and provide breathtaking views of the surrounding Carpathian landscape. Despite its relatively modest size, Pieniny harbors remarkable biodiversity, with approximately 6,500 known animal species and over 1,100 vascular plant species, including several endemic species found nowhere else in the world.
