Quellbäche des Eppenbrunner Baches

Quellbäche des Eppenbrunner Baches is a nature reserve in the Südwestpfalz district of Rhineland-Palatinate in southwestern Germany. It lies close to the French border, just south of the village of Eppenbrunn, and protects the spring streams and stream-valley landscapes that feed the Eppenbrunner Bach. The area was placed under formal nature protection in 1991 and covers roughly 94 hectares of mosaic habitats along the upper reaches of the watercourse. The reserve is defined by its hydrology rather than by elevation or scale: it is shaped by spring brooks, small impoundments, and the natural transitions between wet meadows, sedge stands, fens, brook-side alder forests, and drier rocky slopes nearby. This combination of groundwater-fed wetland systems and adjacent dry, rocky terrain gives the protected area a particularly rich ecological contrast within a compact footprint. Although modest in size, the site is a representative example of the upper-valley stream and spring ecosystems that characterize the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest near the French border. Its value lies less in headline-grabbing vistas than in the protection of small-scale, sensitive wetland and brook habitats that are increasingly rare in central Europe.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
