Réserve naturelle régionale de l'étang du Pont de Fer

The Réserve naturelle régionale de l'étang du Pont de Fer is a small French regional nature reserve located along the boundary between the Bretagne and Pays de la Loire regions, where the departments of Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique meet. Created in 2008 and inaugurated in 2010, it covers roughly 62 hectares centred on a human-made pond and its surrounding wetlands, woodlands, and peripheral marshes. The reserve's identity is shaped by the pond itself, an approximately 30-hectare body of water set within a buffer of alder and willow woodland, and by its position within a much broader coastal wetland network that includes the Vilaine estuary, the salt marshes of Guérande, the dunes of Pont-Mahé, and the regional natural park of Brière. This network of connected habitats gives the site particular ecological value despite its modest size. Ecologically, the reserve is best known for its vegetated pond margins, its rich birdlife, and the presence of the European otter. It is also recognised for several rare or regionally red-listed plant species growing in and around the water, as well as for amphibians such as the marbled newt in its peripheral ponds.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
