Robertson Nature Reserve

Robertson Nature Reserve is a small protected rainforest in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. Covering just over five hectares on the edge of the Illawarra Escarpment near the village of Robertson, the reserve guards a fragment of what was once a much larger subtropical forest known as the Yarrawa Brush. The reserve sits at a relatively high elevation for Australian rainforest and receives heavy annual rainfall, yet the forest canopy remains unusually low. This combination of cool, wet conditions and basaltic soils has produced a distinctive warm temperate rainforest community that differs slightly from the cooler temperate rainforests found elsewhere on the escarpment. Although tiny and isolated, Robertson Nature Reserve is a valuable scientific and conservation reference site, offering visitors an accessible window into the type of lush, fern-filled rainforest that once covered a far larger area of the Illawarra foothills.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
