Taylorville Station

Taylorville Station is a protected area in the eastern part of South Australia, situated on the north side of the Murray River about 35 kilometres north west of Renmark and roughly 250 kilometres east of Adelaide. The reserve covers about 92 square kilometres of landscape that is entirely vegetated by mallee vegetation communities, a distinctive form of low, multi-stemmed eucalypt woodland typical of semi-arid Australia. The reserve is internationally recognised as part of the Riverland Biosphere Reserve and is managed as an IUCN Category IV habitat and species management area. Its primary purpose is the conservation of habitat that has been formally listed as critical for the survival of the black-eared miner, a rare Australian bird, in conjunction with the neighbouring Calperum Station and Gluepot reserves. Taylorville Station is significant less as a place of dramatic scenery and more as a quiet but ecologically critical refuge in the Murray-Mallee region. It sits within a broader network of reserves that together safeguard some of the last remaining strongholds of mallee-dependent wildlife in Australia.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
