Waschteich Reuth

Waschteich Reuth is a small protected pond and surrounding wetland landscape in the Vogtland region of Saxony, Germany. It lies west of the village of Reuth, a part of the municipality of Neumark, and extends to the state border with Thuringia, where it meets the territory of Gottesgrün in the Mohlsdorf-Teichwolframsdorf area. Although modest in size, the site is designated both as a nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) and as a European Habitats Directive (FFH) area, reflecting its ecological value within the regional mosaic of ponds, wet meadows, and mixed woodlands of the Vogtlandkreis. The protected area centers on the Waschteich pond itself, together with an extensive zone of natural overgrowth and floating-leaf vegetation along its margins. Surrounding the waterbody are damp to waterlogged meadows and a Galium oak-hornbeam forest, forming a compact but ecologically diverse complex of aquatic, marsh, grassland, and woodland habitats. A small neighboring pond, the Obere Schafteich, is also incorporated into the reserve. The puddle and its surroundings are recognized for their role in preserving a characteristic Vogtland wetland landscape. Because of its layered designations, the site is an example of how even small Saxon ponds can carry significant habitat value, particularly where silting-up zones, wet meadows, and hardwood forest occur together in a limited area.
