Washpool National Park

Washpool National Park is a protected wilderness area in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia, situated approximately 520 kilometres north of Sydney near the regional city of Grafton. The park covers 58,678 hectares, making it one of the largest remaining tracts of intact forest in New South Wales. Established in April 1983, the park was created to preserve the extraordinary biodiversity found within the Washpool and Gibraltar Range forests, which represent some of the oldest rainforest ecosystems on Earth with plant lineages dating back more than 100 million years. The park forms a continuous conservation corridor with neighbouring Gibraltar Ranges National Park and is a central component of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, a World Heritage Site inscribed in 1986 for its outstanding universal value as a living record of the ancient supercontinent Gondwana.
