Werra bis Treffurt mit Zuflüssen

Werra bis Treffurt mit Zuflüssen is a designated Natura 2000 Fauna-Flora-Habitat area in the German state of Thuringia. It protects an extensive stretch of the Werra river, from its source regions in the Thuringian Slate Mountains down to the state border near the town of Treffurt, together with several of its tributaries and a network of associated floodplain habitats. The protected area reflects the ecological character of a medium-sized Central European river system, combining fast-flowing upland streams, lowland river sections, oxbows, dissolution lakes, inland salt sites, wet meadows, and wooded gorges. It is recognized as one of the most important freshwater habitats in Thuringia, particularly for species that are sensitive to water quality and continuity. Beyond its ecological value, the site holds regional significance as a conservation anchor for a long section of the Werra, integrating it into the European Union's broader network of protected areas and connecting it with overlapping nature parks, landscape protection areas, and Bird Directive zones.
