Wielkopolski National Park

Wielkopolski National Park is one of Poland's oldest and most visited national parks, located along the Warta River just south of Poznań, between the towns of Luboń, Stęszew, and Mosina. It protects a richly varied post-glacial landscape filled with lakes, moraines, eskers, drumlins, dunes, and forested valleys that together form a compact natural museum of Pleistocene landforms. The park is widely celebrated for preserving traces of the last ice age, including tunnel-valley lakes and the prominent moraine upland that gives the area much of its scenic relief. Beyond its geology, the park safeguards a mosaic of old pine forests, oak-hornbeam stands, bog vegetation, and freshwater lakes, supporting an exceptionally rich fauna of insects, mammals, and breeding birds. Although relatively small in size compared to other Polish national parks, Wielkopolski is densely networked with hiking trails, cycling routes, and cultural points of interest, making it a major recreation destination for residents of the Poznań metropolitan area and an important site for ecological research and nature education in the Wielkopolska region.
