Wildnispark Zürich

Wildnispark Zürich is a Swiss nature and wildlife park that brings together two distinct sites near the city of Zürich: the Naturerlebnispark Sihlwald, a large contiguous forest reserve along the Sihl river, and the Tierpark Langenberg, a wildlife park focused on European native species. Together the foundation manages roughly twelve square kilometers of land within the Zürich metropolitan region, offering urban residents direct access to forest trails, wildlife viewing, and educational programming. In 2010 the Sihlwald component became the first area in Switzerland to receive the federal label of Naturerlebnispark, a designation reserved for parks of national significance. The park's mission centers on connecting the dense urban populations of the Zürich, Zug, and Luzern corridor with large-scale natural environments where wild plants and animals can be observed and understood. Beyond its recreational role, Wildnispark Zürich serves as an important conservation platform, protecting one of the largest near-natural mixed forest tracts remaining in the Mittelland and reintroducing public awareness of large herbivores that once shaped European woodland landscapes. It operates a visitor center at Sihlwald, a network of guided tours, school programs, and seasonal events, and welcomes several hundred thousand visitors each year.
