Dubringer Moor

Dubringer Moor is a large nature reserve in northern Saxony, Germany, straddling the municipalities of Bernsdorf, Hoyerswerda and Wittichenau in the district of Bautzen. Spanning roughly 1,711 hectares, it ranks among the largest protected nature reserves in Saxony and sits at the heart of the traditional Upper Lusatian pond and moorland landscape. The reserve is a mosaic of wet forest, species-rich grassland, fish ponds and true mire habitats, including intermediate bog, fen and a regenerated open heath-mire that together form a through-flow moor. This combination of habitats makes the area the largest still-intact moorland complex of the Upper Lusatia (Oberlausitz) region and a key refuge for wetland-dependent plants, breeding birds, amphibians and mammals. Beyond its local significance, Dubringer Moor is embedded in the European Natura 2000 network as both a Habitats Directive site (FFH-Gebiet) and a Special Protection Area for wild birds (Europäisches Vogelschutzgebiet), reflecting its importance for threatened bird species and fragile peatland ecosystems.
