Hambrücker Wiesen

Hambrücker Wiesen is a designated landscape protection area in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, situated on the territory of the municipality of Hambrücken in the Landkreis Karlsruhe. Established through ordinance by the Landratsamt Karlsruhe in 1991, the protected area covers approximately 107 hectares of open agricultural landscape west, north, and south of the village. Its core identity is defined by extensive meadows, scattered orchards, and the wetland corridor along the Wagbach stream, set within the natural region of the Hardtebenen on the western edge of the Upper Rhine Plain. The area's protection focus centers on the long-term preservation of species-rich meadow communities, some of which include rare and endangered plant species. Wetland habitats such as reed beds and wet meadows line the Wagbach, while portions of the grassland are classified as lowland hay meadows of conservation value. Alongside its ecological role, the protection framework also safeguards the open agricultural character of the landscape, preventing building sprawl and curbing enclosure of fields, which contributes to both biodiversity and local recreation. Hambrücker Wiesen forms part of a broader network of protected landscape areas in the Landkreis Karlsruhe. It overlaps substantially with the FFH (Habitats Directive) site Lußhardt between Reilingen and Karlsdorf and borders the protected landscapes of Obere Saalbachniederung to the south and Obere Lußhardt to the north, linking meadow, wetland, and forest protected zones across the region.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
