Ilog-Hilabangan Watershed Forest Reserve

The Ilog-Hilabangan Watershed Forest Reserve is a protected forest and watershed area on the island of Negros in the Philippines. Established on June 28, 1990, in the province of Negros Occidental, it covers an area of about 10,211 hectares inland from the cities of Himamaylan and Kabankalan. The reserve sits within the catchment area of the Ilog River and the headwaters of the Hilabangan River, in rugged mountain terrain whose summits rise above 1,000 meters. The reserve protects lowland and montane tropical rainforest that harbors rich tree, plant, bird, and mammal diversity, including several endemic and threatened Philippine species. Its function is twofold: to safeguard the watersheds that supply important rivers on the western side of Negros, and to act as a stronghold for native forest biodiversity in a region that has experienced extensive deforestation. As one of several protected areas in the Western Visayas region, the Ilog-Hilabangan reserve plays a meaningful ecological role on Negros Island alongside neighboring natural parks such as Mount Kanlaon and Northern Negros Natural Park.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
