Kleines Laufenbachtal

Kleines Laufenbachtal is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the Eifel region of western Germany, situated within the municipal area of Monschau in the Städteregion Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Covering roughly 13 hectares, the protected area follows the course of the Kleiner Laufenbach, a brook that rises near the village of Mützenich and descends into the Rur river close to the historic Felsenkeller brewery museum. The reserve was established in 1997 under the regional landscape plan for Monschau and is classified as an IUCN Category IV Habitat/Species Management Area. Its purpose is to safeguard habitats for many Red List plants, fungi, and animals while maintaining a near-natural valley landscape of wet and nutrient-poor grasslands, reed beds, ponds, unaltered brook sections, and naturally formed rock outcrops. Beyond its ecological role, the valley also serves as a fresh-air corridor for the town of Monschau, situated below in the Rur valley, giving the small site an unusually layered significance for biodiversity, landscape character, and local climate.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
