Laquipampa Wildlife Refuge

Laquipampa Wildlife Refuge is a protected area in the Lambayeque Region of northern Peru, situated in the Ferreñafe Province near the town of Incahuasi. It safeguards a sizeable tract of tropical dry forest, one of the most threatened ecosystems in northwestern South America, where seasonal rains support a mix of deciduous trees, bromeliads, and understory plants adapted to long dry periods. The refuge is recognized for harboring populations of the white-winged guan, a critically endangered cracid that has become a flagship species for dry-forest conservation in Peru, as well as the spectacled bear, which reaches into higher elevations within the protected area. Managed under the national protected-areas system of Peru, Laquipampa represents an important bridge between coastal desert landscapes and the forested foothills of the Andes.
