Mount Tipton Wilderness

Mount Tipton Wilderness is a roughly 30,760-acre wilderness area in northwestern Arizona, occupying the northern end of the Cerbat Mountains in Mohave County. Managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and protected under the National Wilderness Preservation System, it combines open mountain ridges, high desert terrain, and forested elevations around Mount Tipton, the highest peak in the range at just over 7,100 feet. The wilderness is best characterized by its transition from lower piñon-juniper woodlands and shrublands to higher ponderosa pine stands near the summit. Its setting away from major population centers, combined with the presence of free-roaming wild horses, gives the area a distinctive and relatively remote character within Arizona's desert-Mogollon borderlands. Although smaller than many federally designated wilderness areas, Mount Tipton holds an important role in protecting undeveloped mountain habitat in a state otherwise dominated by arid basins. Its combination of scenic ridges, including the Cerbat Pinnacles, makes it both an ecological preserve and a quiet backcountry destination visited primarily by hikers and those interested in the region's wild horse populations.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
