Nassachtal Landscape Protection Area

Nassachtal is a designated landscape protection area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. Established on 6 September 1982, it covers the entire catchment area of the Nassach stream, including the full Nassach valley and adjoining land. The protected area spans roughly 2166 hectares across two administrative districts, with about 995 hectares in the Göppingen district and about 1172 hectares in the Rems-Murr-Kreis district, touching the municipalities of Ebersbach an der Fils, Wangen, Uhingen, and Schorndorf. The area lies within the natural region known as Schurwald und Welzheimer Wald, which forms part of the broader Swabian Keuper-Lias landscape. Its primary purpose is to safeguard a varied, near-natural landscape that combines ecological value with recreational importance. The protected zone also fully encloses the smaller Bärentobel nature reserve and overlaps with the Schurwald FFH (Fauna-Flora-Habitat) area, giving it additional habitat-protection significance. Although relatively modest in size compared with major national parks, Nassachtal represents a typical example of Germany's system of smaller landscape protection areas that together form an extensive network of locally anchored conservation zones. Its character is defined less by dramatic scenery and more by the continuity of a wooded valley landscape shaped by the Nassach stream and the surrounding Schurwald hill country.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
