Niesenberg bei Weinsheim

Niesenberg bei Weinsheim is a small nature reserve in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is centred on the Niesenberg, a compact dolomite hill located southeast of the village of Weinsheim within the Prüm Limestone Basin (Prümer Kalkmulde). The reserve was designated in 1985 to preserve the hill's species-rich calcareous grassland and its pine stands as habitat for rare wild plants, plant communities, and wild animals. Although small in extent, the site carries clear scientific and conservation weight because of its underlying dolomite geology, a relatively unusual substrate within the broader Eifel landscape. The combination of nutrient-poor calcareous soils and warm, south-facing slopes creates conditions that support specialized plants, including several orchid species and several continental dry-grassland specialists that are listed on regional red lists. Together with other small Naturschutzgebiete in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm, Niesenberg bei Weinsheim forms part of a broader network of protected habitats that protect fragments of semi-natural grassland, juniper scrub, and pine woodland along the limestone belt of the Prüm Basin.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
